Awards Banquet: The Award Banquet honors varsity letter award winners in good standing. School APA provides the student guest list, and students and parents are invited, along with coaches, administrative staff, and Booster president(s). Chairperson(s) secure the location, determine menu and pricing, mail invitations, create programs, decorations, and may provide favors to athletes. The Boosters cover the meal costs for athletes, invited guests and Booster President(s). Typically held at the end of May.
Booster BBQ: Held annually the Thursday prior to Homecoming, this community focused event is typically held outdoors. Secure food service (paid or donated), set pricing, sell tickets, arrange tent rental, publicize event, decorate area, and coordinate volunteers to set up, serve food and clean up. Work with school APO regarding placement of tent, chairs and tables. Requests cash box/bank and prepares deposits.
Booster Bucks: Chairman works with Manna Group Inc. to order gift cards/certificates from various businesses to be sold to families where a percent of sales is returned to the school. Families can designate a specific sport, activity or club to receive the profit. Detailed records of purchases, student’s activity/club/sport, finances and spread sheet of available items for purchase. Maintain a “Quick Bux” inventory for sales at specific school events. Provide info for newsletter as needed. Copies of order forms for office.
Concessions Coordinator: Oversees all areas of concessions. Works with purchasing coordinator for supplies, food, ice etc. Works with volunteer coordinator for each sport to verify coverage, including opening and closing. Requests or delegates request for cash box/bank, prepares deposits. Assists in maintaince of the indoor and outdoor concession stand. Possesses keys to both areas.
Purchasing: Shopping is done through various vendors with some being delivered and some needing purchase. Help unpack, deliver set up stand as needed. Assists in maintaince of the indoor and outdoor concession stand, cleaning cooking utensils, aprons, towels. Be at all home football games to help with set-up and clean-up.
Volunteers: Specific to each sport this person coordinates the schedule of parent volunteers to “work” the concession stand. Uses e-mail or telephone for reminders.
Drama Concession: Provides simple concessions and single rose flowers for purchase during intermission of the school musical and play. Items include bottled water, cookies and flowers. Requests cash box/bank and prepares deposit.
Fashion Show: Typically held annually in the spring at a local banquet facility, this event features students in the senior class. Chairperson(s) coordinate many subcommittees, including models, store fashions, commentary, ticket sales, program, DJ & choreography, and raffle baskets/prizes. Detailed notebook w/ideas, suggestions, previous reports available. This event is one of the largest fundraisers for the Booster Organization. Requests cash box/bank and prepares deposits.
Floral Symphony: Generally held in early March, this music fundraiser is co-sponsored by Glenbard West High School, and alternates between the two schools. Work with floral liaison to recruit florists who design arrangements to be raffled off to attendees. Provide tickets, ticket sales, program, publicity, student escorts, parent volunteers, site location coordination, and refreshments for florists. Work closely with the Music Department chair at South and the Band and Orchestra designated parents from Glenbard West. Requests cash box/bank and prepares deposits.
Football Parking: Arrive at home football games prior to the start of the sophomore game to “rope off” parking area for Level 3 booster members. Use cones; (at school) festive flags and other volunteers to ensure the parking spaces are allocated to those who are on a specified list.
Golf Outing: Held annually in fall this fund-raising event invites all golfers (parents, friends & staff) to enjoy a day golfing, have dinner and take a chance on raffle baskets/prizes. Provide flyer/info for newsletter and at school. Secure location, set pricing, choose menu, secure “hole” sponsors, prizes, goodie items and raffle items. Insurance for “hole in one” if applicable.
Hospitality: Provide hospitality for several school events and booster needs. November a dessert table has been hosted for the GSHS staff to enjoy in the teacher lounge. May – Teacher Appreciation week has a snack/dessert/cheese/fruit table for the staff. Coordinate with booster co-presidents “gifts” for the office staff at holiday time and honor retirees with a donation to the Glenbard Pep fund. (Letter written with check)
LRC Volunteers: Work with School to recruit volunteer parents to assist in the LRC during school hours. Help with special events if requested.
Market Day: A monthly fund-raiser selling food items from vendor. Set date and coordinate with Market Day representative timing, location and needs. Publicize to school community, parents and staff. Coordinate student and parent volunteers to “work” pick-up.
Music Liaison: Work with music department to report to monthly booster meetings the needs, events and accomplishments of the music department.
Newsletter Editor: Receive articles from Officers and committees for input into newsletter. Format and submit for review by co-presidents and principal. Dates/deadlines coordinated with the executive board. Work with the school AV dept to post newsletter information on school website. Work with copy/mailing volunteers to execute mailing.
Copy/Mailing: request address labels from the office staff and schedule copy & mailing of the newsletter and use of work room. Provide copies to staff mailboxes (?), mail copies to non-parent booster members.
Parent Social: Fall- Open home to booster parents for a social fun evening. Prepare flyer for newsletter/registration/open house. Guests pay $5/person and bring appetizers. Request cash box/bank. Prepare deposit.
Winter – new this year. Coordinate hosting of event, location or home. (This year plan is: bowling) Tickets, pricing, refreshments/food. Determine need for raffle/prizes.
Pasta Diner/Pack the House: Annual event held in January with the basketball (girl’s and boy’s) game nite. Choose caterer, order food, set pricing, coordinate volunteers for set-up, serving, clean up. Determine decorations and provide info/flyer for newsletter and school office.
Post Prom: Held annually after school sponsored prom this event provides a safe alternative for students to continue their special evening. Work with school for date. Secure location, set pricing, provides tickets and ticket sale incentives. Find chaperones and prizes for attendees. Past events have included cruise on Lake Michigan, ESPN zone, GameWorks, magician entertainment.
Publicity: Oversee publicity of booster events for local newspapers and to district office. (currently Peg Manion) Contact committee chairman for details and submit electronically to media.
Raffle Coordinator: This position coordinates ALL raffle solicitation for the entire year. Working with Golf outing, Fashion Show, Raider Run and any other specified event. Letters of solicitation are sent to businesses in the community asking for financial or “raffle” type donations. Donations are coordinated into prize “baskets” for events, or used as silent auction items. Importance on not over soliciting area merchants, this position alleviates this concern. This should involve several committee members to assist with thank you notes and door to door requests and computer spread sheet of donors.
Raider Pride: Held in fall at a Friday night football game this event is to encourage community spirit. Flyers are provided for the feeder elementary & middle schools. (and St. James?) (Flyer needs approval from GSHS and District 89) Favors are given to younger students who attend. Elementary & middle school students receive free admission when wearing their school shirts. Coordinate decorations (balloons).
Raider Run: Held annually usually first Sunday in May. This 5K walk/run is held for sports teams and clubs to raise money for their chosen sport. Runners are encouraged to get pledges/sponsors. Location is coordinated with GSHS and county (DuPage), city (Wheaton), village (Glen Ellyn). Permits needed. Food, t-shirts, entertainment, runner “goodie bags” all are coordinated. Publicity and early registration is a priority.
Raider Wear: T-shirts, sweatshirts, clothing and “gear” for students, parents and staff. Maintain and create a sellable inventory. Order from vendors and coordinate with school bookstore for storage and sales. Provide order form for newsletter, website and school office. Publicize in newsletter. Prioritize emphasis of school colors for all items.
Registration: Assist with needs at registration for sale of gym clothing or as designated by the school and booster board.
Split the Pot: The ever popular $1 each or 6/$5 tickets sold at home football games and Pack the Place Basketball night. Coordinate sellers/shifts & times, purchase/provide tickets and small bank. Count money and keep press box aware of $$$ received. Work with announcer to announce winner at the start of 3rd quarter and congratulate winner with $ amount. Prepare deposit for treasurer.
Sports Programs: New in 2007. The coordination and selling of advertising and photos of sports teams for all three athletic seasons. Fall, Winter & Spring. Work with athletic office and school to insure photos/copy. Prepare solicitation of advertising and copy ready ads. Invite parents to place “ads” for their student athlete, band, club or child.
Three on Three Basketball: One weekend in Fall & Spring. Designed as a fund-raiser this provides elementary and middle school students a chance to compete in simple three on there basketball. Coordinate team registration, t-shirts, concessions, score keepers, time keepers, monitors and volunteers. Encourages a fun semi-competitive atmosphere of play. Trophies (?) Publicize in newsletter, with athletic department, at feeder schools and in community. Secure cash boxes/bank and prepare deposits as needed.
Volunteers: Prepares volunteer sheet for registration packet, newsletter and school office. Keeps master list of volunteers for distribution to committee chairman. Serves on nominating committee.
West/South Game: New in 2007. A community rivalry is back and this football game kicks off the season. Coordinate any special event items like t-shirts, favors, food and community cause. (collection for food pantry) Work closely with school, athletic office, West Boosters and parents to make an exciting well attended event.
